Miss Wheelchair Tennessee Visits
Maximum Ramp Project

Carrie Padgett, Miss Wheelchair Tennessee, will show her support for the Memphis area volunteers building a wheelchair-access ramp at 1626 Jackson, Oct. 19, at noon.

Miss Padgett won the Miss Wheelchair Tennessee, competition in Chattanooga on Sept. 14, starting her reign as a spokes person for people with disabilities. She will represent Tennessee in the National competition in Chicago in September 1997.

While in Memphis, Miss Wheelchair Tennessee will visit the ongoing ramp construction this month entitled "Maximum Ramp Project". Often the final resource for someone to get a needed access ramp is to turn to Kevin Lofton and the Community Independent Living funds. Kevin Lofton of the Memphis Center for Independent Living, takes referrals from social workers and advocates to match up those with permanent and severe disabilities with the ramps they need. Unfortunately, the grant pays only for the materials. The skill and labor are not covered.
