Are you ready for the National Disability Rights Conference?

Take a look at some of the issues this spring.

Attendant Care

Since MiCASA was introduced last summer many Americans have come to see long-term care as a civil rights issue. The ADAPT Action this May will undoubtably focus on bringing this message to more Americans.

More people need to realize the impact of long-term care on their lives. The central issues of poverty, disability and institutionalization effect us all. Even within the disability community, individuals often isolate people still struggling for their basic freedoms.

Empowering people depersonalized by the nursing home industry is critical to the civil rights of all Americans. The long standing stigma of disability has turned charity into institutional profits.

Now Americans must end the grip of the nursing home over the lives of people.

We need MiCASA because empowering Americans is the right thing to do.

People with disabilities need to work together for this goal.

All Americans must see the human cost of dehumanization through support of the nursing home industry.

Everyone needs to see the positive environment created by including all Americans.

GREYHOUND

ADAPT has worked for years against the bigotry of transportation companies. Now Greyhound is striking at the ADA in frustration with the long overdue over-the-road regulations.

Here in Memphis the grave issues of accessibility ripple throughout our city. The ripples start with the question of: "How do you leave your home with no ramp?" The question progresses: "How do you leave your neighborhood with no curb cuts? How do you go from neighborhood to neighborhood without accessible transportation?" Those ripples create the barriers of inaccessibility that cover our city.

Other issues like housing and enforcement of the ADA are on people's minds. That is one of the best aspects of the National Disability Rights Conference, you have the chance to meet advocates from around the U.S. and see how they have tackled those issues.

Support HR 2020 and consumer control in long-term care.
