Long-Term Care in Tennessee
Tennessee's new thrust in long-term care has resulted in Tennessee ADAPT issuing a "Position Statement." Tennessee ADAPT obviously does not like the proposed bills HB 2842 and SB 2411 because they do not include consumer control. ADAPT, however, does not want to go so far as to be aligned with the nursing home industry opposing this legislation.
The real tragedy is that our law-makers in Tennessee are so caught-up in the good-ol' boy system of subsidizing institutions, that they don't want to "take away the nursing homes money." That money is not "the nursing homes money," that money belongs to the taxpayer. What U.S. citizen do you know enjoys funding a subsidized non-competitive monolith?
The nursing home industry has been the "caretakers" for over 30 years. Now it is time to provide Americans with choice. ADAPT is working to end the "caretaker-dependency" model of care, by giving Americans choices in how long-term care is provided.
The finding is the vehicle for change. To continue to fund programs and facilities without the involvement of the consumers will continue our spiral of waste and neglect. ADAPT supports empowering people and allow their needs to "drive the market."
Support HR 2020 and consumer control in long-term care.
