(MEMPHIS, July 24) Davis Kidd Booksellers will host a benefit dessert tasting for American Disabled for Attendant Programs Today (ADAPT) on Saturday July 24, 1999 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Local restaurants, businesses, chefs and concerned citizens will provide a variety of sweets and after-dinner dishes to sample along with gourmet coffee and spiced tea.
ADAPT is a grassroots civil rights organization that is dedicated to ending the strangle-hold that nursing homes have on the lives of people with disabilities. The money will go to build support for the Medicaid Community Attendant Services and Supports Act (MiCASSA). People are trapped by institutional neglect and apathy because Medicaid money goes to establishments rather than individuals. MiCASSA, however, will change that by empowering people rather than subsidizing institutional mediocrity.
Tickets to the dessert tasting are $4.50 a person. For tickets or more information call 726-6404. Davis Kidd Booksellers is located at 387 Perkins Extended in Laurelwood.
