SCHIP (State Children's Health Insurance Program) - In the meantime, last week a bill in Congress to extend health care for 10 million children under the age of 19 did not get the 2/3 vote in the House of Representatives to over-ride the President's veto. The vote was 273 to 156 to over-ride the President's veto, 14 votes short of the 2/3 needed. Call your congressman today and ask them to continue to work to pass a bill to provide health insurance to 10 million children, of whom 150,000 live in Tennessee and need CoverKids. Call 1-800-828-0498.

Congress will bring the SCHIP bill up again: Stay tuned. We are working to change the vote of 14 Congressman from "NO" to "YES." Tennessee has 4 members of Congress who voted "NO." They are: Congressman David Davis, John Duncan, Zack Wamp, and Marsha Blackburn.

Sincerely,

Tony Garr, Tennessee Health Care Campaign, tgarr@thcc2.org
