ADAPT Demands 3/26/07
ADAPT of Tennessee contends that the Aging Commission of the Mid-South has become a hindrance to people who want to move out of institutions and nursing homes. The ableist attitude of the Commission’s current administration leads to discrimination and the continued segregation of those living in institutions that want out.
Therefore the Aging Commission of the Mid-South, through Dr. Kathleen Spears or her appointee, must meet the following demands:
Immediately provide to us, in writing:
(1) The names and contact information for the Board of Directors for the Aging Commission of the Mid-South, including contact information for their appointing authority
(2) A written and signed statement from Dr. Spears and the chair of the Board of Directors of the Aging Commission of the Mid-South agreeing to have a board meeting within 15 days in which the agenda is that representatives of ADAPT of Tennessee are able to address their issues and request changes.
(3)Copies of all policies and procedures internal, external and otherwise concerning the Statewide Waiver copy of all policies and procedures concerning the Statewide Waiver including all memos from the State and TennCare plus any internal policies and procedures concerning implementation of the Statewide Waiver and all of its programs.
(4) A written agreement for an independent review of all calls and applications that have not led to approval for the Statewide Waiver over the previous two years.
(5) A letter of apology to Mr. Glenn Bailey from Dr. Spears and her staff for their ableist agenda and unwillingness to provide him assistance in moving out of the nursing home.
