I'm Uninsurable
Cover Tennessee Won't Cover Me!
Join the campaign to restore coverage for
uninsurables.
My name in Misti Whitaker and I have Lupus, a disease that tricks my immune system into thinking my cells and tissues are foreign substances to be destroyed. It’s taken a toll on my kidneys to the point that I was awaiting a kidney transplant when TennCare was taken away.
I lost health insurance coverage once before (removed from my parent’ plan at age 21), but it wasn’t as scary because I wasn’t as sick. Couldn’t get coverage on my own because of my pre-existing condition. Mom has called every insurance company out there—including the one’s supplied by the State. No private insurance provider will cover me.
Misti Whitaker lives in Bristol, Tennessee. She is 24, has no income and medical debt of over $100,000 dollars.
Since my TennCare termination, I’ve masked symptoms to avoid treatment because of feeling guilty about the financial burden to my parents. This ended up making me sicker, of course, and mom has made me promise not to do it again. I have the greatest parents on the planet! They’d do anything for me, including going into debt to care for me, but it upsets me that they have to. I pray for all the uninsurable Tennesseans who were cut from TennCare, especially those without the support of a loving family. What will become of them?
I can’t access “Access Tennessee," and "Cover Tennessee” won’t cover me."
Are you uninsurable and / or have you been cut off TennCare?
Is so, it is time to tell your story and show up!
