Sponsored by:
Tennessee Microboards Association, Inc.

Monday, February 13th, 2006
Tuesday, February 14th, 2006
9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Memphis Center for Independent Living
1633 Madison Avenue, Memphis, TN 38104

Overview
This workshop is about making MONEY. A growing number of people with disabilities have started their own successful businesses and are leading much better lives because of it.
Doreen Rosimos and Darcy Smith have helped hundreds of individuals identify and establish businesses that allow them to increase both their income and their satisfaction with life. Many of these individuals were excluded from traditional supported employment services, or had not found success in working for others.

Come and learn how other people have done it and how you can do it—whether you’re a potential business owner, service provider, or family member.

Who is the Workshop For?
People with disabilities, family members, direct support staff, VR counselors, DD case managers, teachers, and other people who want to explore alternatives to traditional supported employment by helping a person start a business that capitalizes on his or her gifts and talents.

Not Just Lecture, but Work in Progress
This is a hands-on, small group based training for teams and individuals. Participants will work in small groups that focus on individuals with disabilities who are personally considering business development. By the end of the second day, these individuals will have been assisted in the initial development of a business concept, and everyone will have a practical understanding of what’s involved in identifying and laying the groundwork for a business that matches the entrepreneur’s dreams and talents.

Topics

  • How to turn self-employment dreams into realistic jobs and significant income
  • Why you don’t have to be able to do it all yourself in order to own a business
  • Identifying profitable market niches
  • Helping people think through the pros and cons of self-employment
  • Designing your business team
  • Approches for entrepreneurs with complex disabilities, including challenging behaviors
  • Vocational Rehabilitation and other resources

Registration: $20 for individuals with disabilities and family members
$100 for two days for all others!
This fee includes lunch on both days!
Fee is non-refundable unless written cancellation is received 15 days before session. Substitutions are always welcome.
