Stop the Lies!

We are here today to tell Governor Bredesen to save TennCare NOW!

Photos of the Save TennCare Rally.(MEMPHIS, NOVEMBER 17, 2004) Bredesen has continued to mislead Tennesseans and bully advocacy groups. We came together today, as Tennesseans, to remind Governor Bredesen - he works for the people.

It is time for the Governor to stop lying to the people of Tennessee. Over the last few days we have heard the Governor mislead Tennesseans through comments used to make the Tennessee Justice Center (TJC) look like the reason TennCare is in trouble. When in fact TJC and others have worked hard to protect individual rights, bring forward measures to save money and ultimately save TennCare. Governor Bredesen has continued to resist this effort.

We want answers and we want the truth. Why has Governor Bredesen fought the Newberry Settlement? It would not only help free Tennesseans from institutions but save TennCare millions of dollars.

Why is Governor Bredesen blaming advocates for the rising costs in prescriptions? The Tennessee Healthcare Campaign has proposed measures used in other states that would save the state money, but Bredesen is unwilling to listen.

The current administration agreed to the consent decrees, even hailing them as helping save TennCare. The Governor’s Office on August 27, 2003, commented on the consent decrees as having a “tremendous positive impact on the future of the program”.

We want Governor Bredesen to commit to the people of Tennessee to work with the Tennessee Justice Center, the Tennessee Health Care Campaign and advocates to save TennCare and protect our Constitutional Rights. Working together and implementing some of the THCC plans, abiding by the consent decrees and listening to the people, governor Bredesen can guarantee our constitutional rights, save money and save TennCare.

It is time, WE THE PEOPLE, are answered truthfully by the Governor!
