Polling site survey day

Randy Alexander

Randy AlexanderThe Shelby County VOTE! Committee, has been working hard for the past year to survey the polling precincts of Memphis for accessibility based on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). There are 233 polling sites in Memphis. A small dedicated sub-committee of the Shelby County VOTE! Campaign has been volunteering their time on weekends and evenings to administer these surveys. So far, they have completed 50 surveys. WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Therefore, we are calling on you: people with disabilities, community organizations, agencies, family members, and friends to commit your time and energies for one day - December 12th, to survey the remaining polling sites in Memphis before the February Presidential Primary. We will be meeting at the Memphis Public Library located at 3030 Poplar Avenue

We will begin at 9:30am with a short and easy training and Krispy Kreme donuts. Afterwards, we will divide into teams of at least 2 people. Then the teams will be sent to survey at least three of polling sites in one area of Memphis. When finished the teams will return their completed surveys to MCIL at 1633 Madison Avenue  and enjoy a barbecue dinner and share experiences.

This activity is crucial to citizens with disabilities in Memphis. Tennessee will be the first state in the Nation to vote during early voting, which starts on January 21st. We must make sure no citizen is denied their right to vote because of a disability. Please join the Shelby County VOTE! Campaign for this one very important, educational, and interesting day to help us make the voting and election processes user friendly and accessible to all citizens

To RSVP, for more information or reasonable accommodations please contact Christina at (901) 726-6404 or christina@mcil.org

Sincerely,

Joanne Rich
