SPECIAL FROM AUSTIN TEXAS

Austin ADAPT prepares for Action

National ADAPT Action in Washington DC May 11 – 15

I stopped by the ADAPT office in Austin Texas April 25 and saw them preparing, as ADAPT chapters are all over the country, for the upcoming national ADAPT Action in Washington DC May 11 through the 15.

MiCASSA is the prime objective of ADAPT which has been introduced in the Senate by Tom Harkin and in the House Danny Davis [S. 1935 and HR 3612]. ADAPT will show the power of people with disabilities while in Washington DC and work to pass the most important legislation for people with disabilities since the 1990 Americans with Disabilities Act.

People who will not be at the ADAPT Action in Washington DC can be part of a nationwide MiCASSA telephone event with MiCASSA sponsors Senators Tom Harkin, Arlen Specter, Representatives Danny Davis and John Shimkus. May 15th, 12:00 Eastern time.

The Memphis Center for Independent Living is planning an event to support the nearly 20 ADAPT advocates traveling to Washington for the Action. You can visit the Aging Commission of of the MidSouth 2670 Union Extended, Suite 1000 (10th Floor), May 15th, at 11:00 amc to participate and you can follow the action in Washington at the MCIL website. MCIL is proud to produce the ADAPT Action Report that will bring a day-by-day account of what is happening in the nation’s capitol.
