Freedom Day 2000
Around 15 members of Tennessee ADAPT went to the Tennessee Nurses Association headquarters! Knoxville, Memphis, and Nashville, were all represented.
Frances Uttilla, Earline Lane, Dawn Schneider, Mark Hicks, and Paul J. Ford went into their office while the others handed out flyers outside the building. Inside, we were able to get the director, Louise Browning, to agree to have an ADAPT representative meet with the board. Their next board meeting should be February 12, 2000.
Ms. Browning was very supportive and very interested in opening up a continuing dialogue with ADAPT. She supported the idea of changing the "Nurse Practices Act" to open up the area of personal assistants not having to be licensed. She liked what little she new of MiCASSA and was glad we left her more information.
Over all, I was very pleased with how things went. I had a lot of "newbies" but they did an excellent job (only 4 of us had national experience, only 2 others had any experience at all,).
