Lost your TennCare?
You may get it back if you apply by February 11, 2000

Send in your pink application on time!

Did you get a PINK TennCare application in the mail in December? It may be your only chance to get TennCare again.

The pink paper should say Rosen at the top. It is called Rosen because of a lawsuit called Rosen. If you have no health insurance now, fill out the application and mail it right away! You MUST mail it by February 11, 2000.

Then you will get back on TennCare if you can't get insurance from a job, even if you could afford it.

With the pink application, you do not have to send in an insurance company turn-down letter.

Need help or have questions about this?

Call the TennCare Information Line at 1-800-669-1851 (or 741-4800 in the Nashville area). Do you use a TTY/TDD machine to talk on the phone? Call 1-800-772-7647 (or 313-9240 in Nashville) with your TTY machine.

What if you did NOT get a pink application?

You may still be one of the people who can get back on TennCare. If all 4 things below are true, you can get a pink Rosen application and get back on TennCare

  1. You used to have TennCare as an uninsured or uninsurable person and
  2. You lost your TennCare before July 11, 1998 and
  3. You have no health insurance now and
  4. You could not get health insurance from a job, even if you could afford it.

If all 4 things are true, make a free call to the TennCare Information Line at 1-800-669-1851 (741-4800 in Nashville). Ask for a pink Rosen application. Fill out the application and mail it by February 11, 2000..

Worried you can't get back on TennCare because you owe them money?

With a pink application, you may not have to pay!

What if TennCare won't give me a pink application or says I can't get back on?

You may need to get help. You can call the Tennessee Justice Center at 615-255-0331.

There are different rules for people who lost TennCare because their MediCAID ended.

Those people will also get a chance to get back on TennCare if their MediCAID ended in 1995 or 1996. TennCare will send them a special application in April 2000. If you don't know if this was the reason you lost TennCare, ask TennCare. Call 800-669-1851 (or 741-4800 in Nashville). Also make sure they have your correct address.

Important! If you mail your pink application too late, you will not get back on TennCare.

Do you want to be able to prove when you mailed your application? Then take your application to the post office. Ask for a proof of mailing date slip. It costs 60 cents. Keep the slip. If your application is lost in the mail, the mailing slip will prove to TennCare that you sent it on time.

You may NOT have to pay money you owe TennCare from the past!

If you apply with a pink application, TennCare will not make you pay premiums you owed between January 1, 1994, and September 30, 1995. If you owe premiums from after September 30, 1995, you can set up a payment plan with TennCare.

If I get back on, when will my TennCare start?

You have a choice. You can tell them to start your TennCare either (1) when they approve you, or (2) on January 20, 1999.

If you didn't have medical bills after January 20, 1999, you may want to start your TennCare when they approve you.

What if you paid (or still owe) for medical care after January 20, 1999?

You may want to pick January 20, 1999, as the starting date for your TennCare. If you qualify, TennCare would then pay for health care you got after January 20, 1999. TennCare would pay you back if you have paid the bills already. Important: If you have to pay monthly premiums for your TennCare, you would have to pay for the months since January 20, 1999.

Do you already have both TennCare and MediCAID?

MediCAID is the type of TennCare you get by applying for it at the Food Stamp office. If you have Medicaid and the 4 things on page 1 are true, call Legal Aid. Ask if you should send in a pink application. In some cases, this can keep you on TennCare after your Medicaid ends.
