PALs "CENTERSTAGE"
Presents
The Odyssey

PHOTO: Marcus Scott

Marcus Scott as the Title Character

Nearly three thousand years after the Odyssey was composed, it remains as one of the most celebrated and widely read stories ever told, yet next to nothing is known about the author. He was certainly an accomplished Greek bard, and he probably lived in the late eighth and early seventh centuries B.C. Authorship is traditionally ascribed to a blind poet named Homer.

The play takes place many years after the Trojan War. A blind storyteller meets tow children playing in a Greek city. He begins to tell a story about Odysseus' adventure on the Island of Circe on this way back to Ithaca.

Special Thanks:
Leah Kaye for her artistic assistance in set design and her support

Emily Sherrod and Taylor Vaughn for helping with backdrops and filling us full of laughs

All the Volunteers. Needless to say, this would not be possible without you. You are each so dedicated and have contributed so much to this production. You guys are awesome.

Pat Jessup for her love and support.

This program is possible by the RHODES college Kenney Community Service Program. The Kenney Community Service Program at Rhodes has become one of the model collegiate service programs in the country, and it now includes a large majority of Rhodes students in weekly service commitments and special projects throughout the year. Beginning with a service plunge during Orientation and followed by the Kinney Fair, students can begin service commitments with soup kitchens and emergency housing programs, environmental action, literacy and tutoring projects, healthcare, and a variety of crisis services and youth mentoring programs.

The participants in this production are members of a group called PALs. PALs addresses the need for children and young adults with disabilities to develop supportive relationships. PALs is designed to bring together youth with disabilities to share important concerns about day-to-day issues and coping strategies. Adults with disabilities are role models for the youth. When possible one to one partnerships of adult and a young partner with same or similar disabilities are made. Group support also provides a means of group identity for the young adults and children involved in learning and recreational activities.
