Enforcing your Civil Rights to access through Federal Litigation

"I can't eat at that restaurant."
"I can't check into that hotel."
"I can't get on the bus."
"I can't use that restroom."
"I can't shop in that store."
"I can't take that class at that school."
"I can't travel in the city because of bad sidewalks or lack of curb cuts."

Can't do anything about it? Have you ever said that? What CAN you do about it?

PLENTY

Tuesday, October 30, 2001 from 1 to 4 pm at 108 Summit Hill Drive, Knoxville.

  • Rights to access with safety and dignity, to both state and local government facilities and businesses that are public accommodations.
  • How and why, we as people with disabilities must enforce our own rights to access; the disability community is forced to be the ADA Police!
  • How to deal with small businesses and BIG ones also.
  • How to file in Federal court without it costing you money.

Section 504 was passed over 25 years ago; the ADA was passed 11 years ago. No other group is expected to take a second-class role. Ignorance by businesses and government is no longer an acceptable excuse. If you don't take an active role in removing barriers within the community you are part of the problem. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn how to get better access.

There is no cost to attend. We ask that you call and leave a message at (865) 524-8543 so enough copies can be provided of handouts.

Sponsored by ADAPT of Tennessee - East Tennessee. A member of Community Shares a fund for Change, ADA Consulting Associates, & the Law Firm of Delao and Marko.
