"I can't eat at that restaurant." "I can't check into that hotel." "I can't get on the bus." "I can't use that restroom." "I can't shop in that store." "I can't take that class at that school." "I can't travel in the city because of bad sidewalks or lack of curb cuts." Can't do anything about it? Have you ever said that? What CAN you do about it? PLENTY
Section 504 was passed over 25 years ago; the ADA was passed 11 years ago. No other group is expected to take a second-class role. Ignorance by businesses and government is no longer an acceptable excuse. If you don't take an active role in removing barriers within the community you are part of the problem. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn how to get better access. |
